Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to manage a broad portfolio of commercial agreements for a rapidly expanding e-commerce platform operating across Southern Africa. This remote-first role requires drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts while ensuring regulatory compliance and protecting company interests.

You will advise internal teams, maintain contract templates, and support governance matters.

Qualifications

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience in commercial contract law.
• Strong understanding of South African contract law and consumer protection legislation.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, customer terms of service, partnership agreements, and marketing contracts.
• Provide legal advice to internal business teams on contractual matters, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.
• Ensure all contracts align with company policies, relevant laws, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage and maintain a contract management system, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely renewals.
• Conduct legal research on specific issues relevant to the e-commerce sector and company operations.
• Assist with corporate governance matters as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and operations, to provide practical legal solutions.
• Support the legal department in developing and implementing standard contract templates and legal processes.
