Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Hydraulic Engineer for a fully remote project management role in South Africa. You will shape water infrastructure projects from inception to completion, applying hydraulic modeling and remote collaboration to deliver robust, compliant designs.

The ideal candidate holds a master's in civil engineering with hydraulic specialization, 7+ years of experience, and a proven ability to manage complex projects remotely while maintaining clear communication and meeting

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field with specialization in hydraulic engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in hydraulic engineering design and analysis.
• Solid experience with hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, SWMM, EPANET).
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, hydrology, open channel flow, and pipe network analysis.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects remotely with clear documentation and problem-solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, proficient in digital collaboration tools.
• Self-motivated, independent, and able to meet strict deadlines in a remote setting.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proactive in identifying and resolving technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Conduct advanced hydraulic analyses and simulations for water conveyance systems, riverine environments, and urban drainage.
• Develop and implement hydraulic models to predict flow, assess flood risks, and design control measures.
• Design and optimize hydraulic structures, including channels, culverts, pipelines, and pumping stations.
• Prepare design reports, specifications, and tender documents for remote review and submission.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and regulators via digital channels to meet objectives.
• Provide remote technical support to field teams and contractors during construction.
• Stay updated on hydraulic engineering software, technologies, and best practices.
• Contribute to conceptual designs and feasibility studies for new projects.
• Ensure designs and analyses comply with national/international hydraulic standards.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables within a remote framework.
