Placements24 is seeking a proactive Remote Health and Safety Officer to champion safety culture and compliance across mining operations. You will develop, implement, and monitor HSE programs, identifying hazards and implementing controls from a distance.

This fully remote role requires 5+ years in health and safety management, SA regulatory knowledge, and strong communication skills. You will lead remote team oversight, drive continuous improvement, and support a zero-harm workplace.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
• Proficiency in using digital tools for reporting, data analysis, and remote team management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update health and safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and site inspections, identifying potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Advise management and employees on health and safety matters and best practices.
