Placements24 is seeking a Senior Research Scientist in Genomics to lead cutting-edge projects from discovery to validation, leveraging deep molecular biology and bioinformatics expertise. The role is fully remote within South Africa and involves guiding projects, analyzing complex datasets, and developing novel genomic assays.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. with 5+ years of genomics experience, proficiency in Python/R and NGS pipelines, and strong communication for effective remote teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry genomics research experience.
• Expertise with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and data analysis pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python or R for bioinformatics analyses and statistics.
• Experience designing/validating diagnostic or research assays desirable.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex genomic research experiments including library prep and sequencing.
• Analyze large genomic datasets using bioinformatics tools and statistics to find significant variants.
• Develop and optimize genomic assays and protocols for diagnostics or drug discovery.
• Interpret results, troubleshoot, and propose innovative research solutions.
• Collaborate virtually with bioinformaticians and scientists to meet project milestones.
• Stay updated on genomics advances, sequencing technologies, and literature.
