Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join a fully remote team focused on sustainable mining practices and regulatory compliance. You will develop, implement, and monitor environmental management plans for diverse mining projects, ensuring adherence to SA legislation and high-quality reporting.

The role requires 6+ years in environmental management within mining, strong EIAs/EMPs experience, and proficiency in modeling and data analysis software.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Environmental Science or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in environmental management, with focus on mining.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Proven experience in EIAs and EMPs.
• Familiarity with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects remotely.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in software for environmental modeling and data management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining projects.
• Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and compile reports.
• Monitor environmental performance and ensure permit compliance.
• Assess and manage environmental risks including water, waste, and biodiversity.
• Develop rehabilitation and closure plans for mine sites.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and communities.
• Conduct environmental audits and site inspections as required.
• Provide technical guidance on environmental best practices to project teams.
• Stay updated with environmental legislation and industry best practices.
• Prepare technical reports, data analysis, and environmental performance metrics.
