Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Environmental Compliance Specialist to join its sustainability team in the Mining sector. This fully remote role enables you to work from anywhere in South Africa while ensuring operations align with national and international environmental regulations and best practices.

You will manage EIAs and EMPs, lead audits, prepare reports, and advise project teams on environmental considerations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science/Management or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• In-depth knowledge of SA environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA) and permitting processes.
• Experience conducting EIAs and developing EMPs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency with environmental data management and reporting tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for remote work.
• Reliable internet connection and suitable remote workspace.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage environmental compliance programs across all mining sites.
• Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure permits and legislation compliance.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans including waste and pollution control.
• Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulators and stakeholders.
• Advise project teams on environmental considerations during planning and operations.
• Monitor environmental performance indicators and identify improvement opportunities.
• Stay current with evolving regulations and industry best practices.
• Respond to incidents and coordinate remediation efforts as needed.
