Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to oversee environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives for mining operations. This fully remote role enables strategic contribution from anywhere in South Africa, with a focus on EMS development, ISO 14001 systems, and stakeholder engagement.

The role requires a degree in environmental science/engineering and 8+ years in mining environmental management.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in environmental science or engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years in environmental management within mining.
• Strong knowledge of SA environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA).

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain EMS across mining operations.
• Ensure compliance with national environmental legislation and permits.
• Lead EIAs and mitigation strategies for new projects and operations.
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs and rehabilitation initiatives.
• Manage environmental incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Engage with regulators, communities and stakeholders on environmental matters.
