Placements24 is hiring a Remote Data Scientist to design and deploy predictive analytics for mining operations from a home office. You will work in a globally distributed team, handling large, diverse datasets and translating business needs into scalable ML solutions.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in data science with Python/R, ML libraries, and cloud expertise across AWS/Azure/GCP, plus a strong statistical background and mining-domain familiarity. Fully remote position with Durban base.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as Data Science, CS, Stats or Math.
• Minimum 5+ years as a Data Scientist with ML project portfolio.
• Proficiency in Python or R and ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Pandas).
• Experience with big data (Spark/Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong statistical modeling, data mining, and ML algorithms knowledge.
• SQL and NoSQL databases familiarity.
• Excellent problem-solving and remote collaboration skills.
• Mining industry or geological/operational datasets experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy ML models for predictive maintenance and optimization in mining contexts.
• Ingest, clean, and process large datasets from diverse sources ensuring data quality.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns relevant to mining operations.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and analytics workflows.
• Collaborate with geologists and engineers to translate needs into data science solutions.
• Present insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
