Placements24 is seeking a data scientist for a remote role focused on mining analytics. You will develop ML models, analyze large datasets, and translate insights into actionable business decisions across geologists, engineers, and analysts.

The role requires strong Python/R, SQL, and cloud skills, with experience in Spark/Hadoop and data visualization. You will collaborate in a distributed environment, contributing to innovative data science initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional data science experience, preferably in mining.
• Proficient in Python and R; strong SQL skills with relational databases.
• Experience with Spark, Hadoop and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Solid understanding of ML algorithms, statistical modeling, and experimental design.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and ability to work remotely.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to solve business challenges.
• Analyze large datasets to identify trends and insights for mining operations.
• Develop predictive models for equipment failure, production, and resource grades.
• Create visualizations and dashboards for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with domain experts to understand data sources and methods.
• Perform data wrangling and feature engineering for modeling.
