Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote Coastal Freight Expeditor to manage and accelerate the movement of goods along the South African coast from a home office. The role requires strong knowledge of Richards Bay port operations, ability to coordinate with shipping lines, trucking firms and port authorities, and to resolve bottlenecks quickly in a fast-paced, virtual environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in freight forwarding, shipping, or logistics with a focus on coastal operations.
• In-depth knowledge of port operations, customs procedures, and shipping regulations relevant to South Africa.
• Proven experience in expediting freight and resolving logistical challenges rapidly.
• Proficiency with logistics management software and communication platforms.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and thrive in a remote work environment.
• Familiarity with Richards Bay port and surrounding logistical networks is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

• Expedite the movement of coastal freight, ensuring timely processing through ports and transit routes.
• Coordinate with shipping agents, port authorities, trucking companies, and customs officials to resolve delays or issues.
• Track and monitor shipments, providing real-time updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Proactively identify potential disruptions in the supply chain and implement immediate solutions.
• Negotiate rates and terms with service providers when necessary.
• Ensure all necessary documentation for coastal freight movement is accurate and submitted on time.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of port operations, regulations, and common challenges in Richards Bay and coastal hubs.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with key partners in the logistics and shipping industry.
• Manage multiple shipments simultaneously, prioritizing effectively to meet critical deadlines.
