Job summary

Placements24 seeks a skilled Remote Chemical Process Development Engineer in South Africa to translate laboratory discoveries into scalable industrial processes. This fully remote role calls for collaboration with R&D and production teams from a home office.

You will develop and optimize processes for new products, perform simulations, generate PFDs and P&IDs, and ensure safety, health, and environmental compliance throughout development and transfer to production.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in chemical process development, scale-up, and design.
• Proven experience taking chemical processes from laboratory to pilot and/or commercial scale.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with a data-driven engineering approach.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective remote collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines.
• Self-discipined and capable of working autonomously in a remote setting.
• Must have reliable internet connectivity and a suitable home office environment.
• Must be legally eligible to work remotely in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical processes for new product introductions with scalability, safety, and cost considerations.
• Conduct laboratory experiments, bench-scale studies, and pilot plant trials to validate process designs.
• Create detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
• Perform process simulations and modeling to predict performance and identify potential risks.
• Collaborate remotely with R&D scientists, engineers, and operations teams for successful process transfer.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues during development, scale-up, and initial production phases.
• Author comprehensive technical reports, research summaries, and process documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations throughout the lifecycle.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment for process development and enhancement.
• Contribute to IP development and patent filings.
