Placements24 is seeking a Process Development Engineer for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will develop and refine chemical processes, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and sustainability, and design pilot-scale studies to support product scale-up.

You will collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams remotely, analyze data, write technical reports, and contribute to process models and simulations. A bachelor’s in chemical engineering and 3–5 years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in process development, scale-up, or R&D within chemical/pharma.
• Proficiency with laboratory equipment and pilot plant operations.
• Experience with process simulation software and statistical analysis tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and conduct experiments to evaluate and optimize new chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes.
• Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and present findings to R&D and engineering teams.
• Develop process models and simulations to predict performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Oversee pilot plant operations, ensuring safe and efficient execution of trials and data collection.
• Write detailed technical reports and documentation for process development activities.
• Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, analytical chemists, and manufacturing personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in process development, scale-up, or research within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Proficiency with laboratory equipment and pilot plant operations.
• Familiarity with process simulation software and statistical analysis tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts remotely.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
