Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Chemical Process Design Engineer for a fully remote position with a primary collaboration hub in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will design and develop robust chemical processes from concept through implementation, using Aspen Plus and HYSYS, while coordinating virtually with a distributed team.

Ideal candidates have a minimum of 5 years in chemical process design, strong thermodynamics and heat/mass transfer knowledge, and proficiency in PFD/P&ID development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

This role is critical for conceptualizing, designing, and developing innovative chemical processes from ideation through to implementation. Key Responsibilities

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new chemical plants and process modifications.


• Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design for various chemical processes.


• Perform process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).


• Select and specify process equipment, ensuring alignment with project requirements and safety standards.


• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, project management, and operations, via virtual communication channels.


• Troubleshoot and optimize existing chemical processes to improve yield, efficiency, and reduce waste.


• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and safety regulations.


• Prepare technical reports and present design proposals to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.


• Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process design and engineering.


• Proficiency in process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar).


• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer.
