Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote Civil Design Engineer focused on bridge design to lead designs, analyses, and documentation for projects across SA. You will work from anywhere in South Africa with strong remote collaboration and mentorship to junior engineers.

The role requires a Master’s in Structural/Civil Engineering with bridge specialization, 10+ years of bridge design experience, and Pr Eng registration with ECSA. Proficiency in LUSAS, MIDAS Civil, and CSiBridge is essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a bridge specialization.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in bridge design.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Experience with multiple bridge types and construction methods; remote work capability and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of beam, arch, and suspension bridges.
• Perform advanced structural analysis using finite element methods.
• Develop detailed design drawings, specs and construction docs.
• Ensure compliance with national and international bridge codes and standards.
• Conduct independent reviews of designs and calculations.
• Collaborate with PMs, clients, and construction teams virtually.
• Provide remote mentorship to junior engineers.
• Assist in proposals and technical reports for bridge projects.
• Troubleshoot design issues during construction and stay updated on best practices.
