Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Aviation Safety Officer for a fully remote role, with the flexibility to work from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal or remotely worldwide. You will lead safety management, audits, and incident investigations to safeguard passengers, crew, and the public.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in aviation safety principles, regulatory compliance, and data-driven risk management, and will promote a proactive safety culture across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety Management, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in aviation safety management, operations, or regulation.
• Thorough knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles and implementation.
• Strong understanding of aviation regulations and standards.
• Proven experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills suitable for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the company's Aviation Safety Management System (SMS).
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across various operational areas.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing CAPAs.
• Promote and foster a positive safety culture through training, awareness campaigns, and effective communication.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable national and international aviation safety regulations (ICAO, SACAA).
• Analyze safety data to identify trends, hazards, and systemic risks.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
• Maintain safety records and documentation, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities on safety matters.
• Monitor and report on the effectiveness of safety initiatives and the overall safety performance.
