Know the product. Understand the application. Earn the customer’s confidence.
An established manufacturer and supplier of specialised commercial and industrial products is looking for an experienced Regional Technical Sales Representative who brings practical product knowledge, commercial drive and the ability to build lasting customer relationships.
This is a hands-on, field-based role with a substantial territory. You’ll be based in the Western Cape, managing and growing a customer base extending through the Eastern Cape and into KwaZulu-Natal. Regular travel and occasional overnight stays are part of the job.
You’ll need at least 5 years’ experience in external, regional or technical sales, with a track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts.
Your background could include manufacturing, commercial or industrial products, hardware and building materials, agricultural products, plastics, textiles, wholesale and distribution, landscaping or related manufactured products.
Direct experience in shade netting, shade cloth, netting products or closely related ranges will give you a strong advantage.
If you started in manufacturing or production and later moved into sales, your understanding of how products are made and used could make you a particularly strong fit.
You’ll work with retailers, wholesalers, distributors, contractors and commercial customers, taking responsibility for:
Growing the region: identifying prospects, opening accounts and developing opportunities within the existing customer base.
Building customer relationships: planning regular visits, understanding requirements and following through on commitments.
Selling with product knowledge: presenting the range, explaining applications and providing practical guidance.
Managing the sales process: preparing quotations, following up on orders and maintaining momentum from enquiry through to sale.
Knowing your market: monitoring competitor activity, recognising opportunities and working consistently towards agreed sales targets.
You are commercially minded, self-motivated and comfortable managing a large territory independently. You know how to plan your travel, prioritise your accounts and keep prospecting while looking after existing customers.
Product knowledge must be central to how you sell. You’re curious about how things work, willing to learn the range thoroughly and confident advising customers on what suits their requirements. Your credibility comes from sound advice, strong relationships and reliable follow-through.
You’ll also need:
Proven new business development and account management ability.
Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
Experience selling physical or technical products.
Confidence working with commercial and industrial customers.
A valid driver’s licence and your own reliable transport.
Willingness to travel extensively across the territory.
Afrikaans and English communication skills will be advantageous.
Immediate availability will be an advantage.
Basic salary + commission, a cellphone allowance and a petrol card, with the opportunity to establish yourself in a stable, long-term environment and grow with the business.
If you bring the sales experience, the drive to develop a region and the commitment to know your products properly, we’d like to hear from you.
