Placements24 is seeking a Regional Fleet Manager to oversee fleet operations across the Paarl region in the Western Cape. You will be responsible for fleet maintenance, driver management, route optimization, regulatory compliance, and cost control.

This hybrid role requires regular presence at the Paarl depot for critical oversight, while also allowing remote management of strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in fleet management within beverage logistics and strong leadership

About the Role

Our client, a premier logistics provider specializing in the wine and beverage industry, is seeking an experienced Regional Fleet Manager to oversee fleet operations across the picturesque Paarl, Western Cape, ZA region and surrounding areas. This pivotal role demands a blend of strategic planning and hands-on operational management, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of high-value wine products. You will be responsible for fleet maintenance, driver management, route optimization, regulatory compliance, and cost control. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of specialized logistics, particularly within the wine sector, coupled with strong leadership and analytical skills. This is a hybrid role, requiring regular presence at our Paarl, Western Cape, ZA depot for critical operational oversight and team engagement, while also allowing for remote management of strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the regional fleet of specialized delivery vehicles.
• Oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, repair schedules, and preventative care.
• Recruit, train, and manage a team of professional drivers, ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards.
• Develop and implement efficient delivery routes and schedules, considering product integrity and delivery windows.
• Ensure full compliance with all relevant transportation laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., for alcohol transport).
• Monitor fleet performance metrics, including fuel efficiency, utilization rates, and delivery success.
• Manage operational budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for savings.
• Implement and enforce stringent safety protocols for drivers and vehicle operations.
• Liaise with clients to ensure satisfaction with delivery services and address any concerns.
• Utilize fleet management software to track assets, monitor performance, and generate reports.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, preferably within specialized logistics or the beverage industry.
• Demonstrated experience in managing a team of drivers and logistics personnel.
• Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance best practices, vehicle types (including refrigerated vehicles), and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in using fleet management software and transportation management systems (TMS).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in route planning and optimization techniques.
• Understanding of the specific logistics challenges and regulations related to wine transportation.
• Ability to work effectively in both a remote and on-site capacity.
• A relevant degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration is preferred.
• Familiarity with the Paarl, Western Cape, ZA region and its transport infrastructure is a significant advantage.
