Job summary

City of Cape Town is seeking a qualified Civil Engineering professional to join Urban Mobility Roads Infrastructure Management. The role focuses on railway safety regulatory work and inspections as part of the Railway Safety Management System.

The ideal candidate holds a BTech or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering and is registered as a Candidate Engineering Technologist with ECSA. Willingness to work across locations and weekends for route inspections is required.

Qualifications

• BTech or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering.
• Registered as a Candidate Engineering Technologist with ECSA.
• Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience in transport engineering and operations.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory and technical support for Railway Safety and City's Railway Safety Management System.
• Conduct railway siding inspections and investigations relating to rail safety incidents.
• Evaluate temporary road closure permit applications and comment on traffic management.
• Evaluate event permit applications from a transport and road infra perspective.
• Assess abnormal load permit applications and conduct route assessments.
• Communicate with event organisers, the public, and other departments.
• Ensure adherence to policies, guidelines, and legislation.
