Job summary

Empire HR Solutions seeks experienced Project Managers for Renewable Energy projects in South Africa, with opportunities in major cities. You will oversee Solar PV and BESS construction, acting as Principal Agent / Owner’s Engineer from contractor appointment through commissioning and close-out.

Role requires strong technical, commercial and stakeholder management capabilities, delivering multiple projects safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng, BTech, National Diploma or equivalent Built Environment qualification strongly preferred.
• PMP certification advantageous.
• Electrical qualification or Wireman’s Licence advantageous.
• ECSA, SACPCMP or similar professional registration advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple Solar PV and BESS projects across the full construction lifecycle
• Take ownership of project programme, cost, quality and risk
• Act as Principal Agent / Owner’s Engineer
• Coordinate contractors, consultants and professional teams
• Manage JBCC and EPC contracts
• Manage instructions, variations, claims and payment certificate recommendations
• Monitor project programmes, budgets and commercial performance
• Identify delays and implement appropriate recovery strategies
• Manage technical, commercial and construction risks
• Review designs, drawings, calculations and technical documentation
• Conduct site inspections and oversee quality assurance
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, legislation and applicable standards
• Lead client and project meetings
• Coordinate commissioning, snagging and practical completion
• Manage project close-out and handover
• Maintain accurate project reporting and documentation

We are currently seeking experienced Project Managers – Renewable Energy to join a leading independent renewable energy consultancy, with opportunities available in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The successful candidates will manage portfolios of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) construction projects, acting in the capacity of Principal Agent / Owner’s Engineer and taking full ownership of projects from contractor appointment through construction, commissioning and close-out.

These are hands‑on project management positions requiring strong technical, commercial, construction and stakeholder management capabilities.

The Project Managers will be accountable for delivering multiple renewable energy projects safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards, while effectively managing contractors, consultants, professional teams and senior client stakeholders.

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ development/construction Project Management or Principal Agent experience
• Construction contract administration experience essential
• EPC project experience strongly preferred
• Solar PV, BESS, electrical or related infrastructure experience highly advantageous
• JBCC contract knowledge strongly preferred
• Consultancy, Owner’s Engineer, Lenders TA or Construction Monitoring experience advantageous
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
• Strong technical, commercial and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across South Africa
