Job summary

Thales Aerospace Communications in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the development of aeronautical products from concept to production handover, following LCM processes and methods. You will plan, execute and control multidisciplinary tasks, manage budgets, milestones, and risks, and report progress to senior management.

The role requires a degree in Electronic Engineering and substantial PM experience in aerospace or related high-tech industries.

Qualifications

  • BScEng or equivalent degree in Electronic Engineering.
  • Significant experience in Engineering Project Management.
  • Experience in aerospace/defence or similar industries.
  • Experience in developing electronics products and/or embedded SW/HW.
  • Knowledge of DO-178 and DO-252 would be a plus.
  • Strong organizational, planning and negotiation skills.

  • Plan, execute and control project tasks allocated to various disciplines to ensure delivery within the allocated timeline and processes.
  • Develop the overall budget including staffing requirements.
  • Ensure that each programme meets the stated objectives.
  • Monitor, control and manage tasks to ensure adherence to the LCM process.
  • Identify and communicate project critical paths and major risks (KPI).
  • Coordinate with sub-contractors when required during development.
  • Work with customers and/or support program management to ensure agreed deliverables and milestones are met.

Job description

Overall Job Function

Perform Project Management during the development of aeronautical products from concept up to production handover according to the company’s Life Cycle Management (LCM) processes and methods.

Job Responsibilities

Plan, execute and control project tasks allocated to various disciplines to ensure delivery within the allocated timeline and processes to ensure quality and cost effectiveness

  • Develop the overall budget including staffing requirements
  • Ensure that each programme meets the stated objectives
  • Agree priorities with the Managers of other Departments and Engineering Director
  • Monitor, control and manage tasks to ensure adherence to the LCM process
  • Identify and communicate project critical paths and major risks (KPI)
  • Address project challenges and resolve project conflicts
  • Gather and analyse information to identify opportunities for improvements
  • Manage communication channels
  • Reports the progress of the projects as required
  • Cooperate and reach consensus with project teams across sites within the AEC division
  • Coordinate with sub-contractors if and when required during development
  • Work with customers and/or support program management to ensure agreed deliverables and milestones are met
Job Requirements
  • BScEng or equivalent tertiary degree in Electronic Engineering
  • Significant experience in Engineering Project Management (a project management certification would be a plus)
  • Several years of experience in aerospace, automotive, defence or similar industries
  • Experience in developing electronics products and/or embedded SW/HW in an electronic/high-tech environment is highly desirable
  • Owning the development cycle, and communicating results to senior management
  • Strong experience in analytical, strategic and planning functions
  • Extraordinary organization skills, attention to detail and excellent follow through Financial, contractual, commercial skills, negotiating ability
  • Experience in an aerospace environment and knowledge of SW and HW development processes such as DO-178 and DO-252 would be a plus
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
