Job summary

Mecad Systems in Pretoria, South Africa, seeks an experienced Project Manager to drive end-to-end project delivery across mechanical and industrial engineering domains. You will lead multi-department collaboration, manage scopes, schedules and budgets, and ensure timely delivery with a focus on quality and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • 4–6 years’ experience in Project Management.
  • 2 years mechanical/industrial engineering experience.
  • Land vehicles experience is an advantage.
  • Total life cycle product experience is an advantage.
  • Engineering degree, preferably Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Post-graduate PM or General Management qualification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Project Charter and Project Management Plan.
  • Control, monitor, and report on project progress.
  • Produce Project Closure Reports and lessons learned.
  • Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for projects.
  • Coordinate technical scope management to align with contractual and customer requirements.
  • Generate and maintain the project plan and schedule.
  • Manage project budget, cash flow and profitability.
  • Draft and implement the Project Quality Plan and QA processes.
  • Ensure weekly reporting to Programmes Manager on status.
  • Liaise with departments to coordinate progress across the value chain.
  • Support development of PM strategy, processes and procedures.

Job description

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • Project integration management
    • Develop Project Charter and Project Management Plan.
    • Control, monitor, and report on project progress.
    • Produce Project Closure Reports and lessons learned.
  • Project scope management
    • Ensure client requirements are registered and communicated to Systems Engineering.
    • Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for projects
    • Coordinate technical scope management, aligning contractual and customer requirements.
    • Stay abreast of global military requirements to track industry trends.
  • Project schedule management
    • Generate and maintain the project plan.
    • Monitor implementation to ensure timely delivery of project outputs.
    • Identify resource requirements for project execution.
    • Manage the project review cycle according to schedule.
  • Project cost management
    • Accountable for project budget management.
    • Compile overall project budget, including all income and expenditure.
    • Control project order authorisation.
    • Report on budget vs actual cost deviations.
    • Manage cash flow and ensure project profitability according to company guidelines.
    • Control project order authorisation.
  • Project Quality Management
    • Liaise with Quality Department throughout the project.
    • Draft, sign off, and implement the Project Quality Plan.
    • Monitor Quality Assurance in collaboration with the Quality Manager.
  • Project Human Resource Management
    • Determine skills requirements for the project in advance.
    • Engage with relevant departments to ensure that required skills are available.
  • Project Communications Management
    • Draft, sign off, and implement the Project Communications Plan.
    • Manage internal and external communications, including client and supplier interactions.
  • Project Risk Management
    • Identify, assess, and manage project risks.
    • Implement risk mitigation strategies timely.
    • Consolidate risks to identify trends and transfer knowledge to other PMs.
  • Project Procurement Management
    • Liaise with Procurement Department throughout the project.
    • Draft, sign off, and implement the Project Procurement Plan.
    • Coordinate procurement requirements across departments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Project Stakeholder Management
    • Serve as central point of contact for clients.
    • Assist project resources with problem-solving according to customer inputs.
  • Project Documentation
    • Ensure accurate invoicing, cash flow, and project management documentation.
    • Maintain project management spreadsheets, tools, and open/closed registers.
General Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with all departments during project execution.
  • Assist with bid proposals and costing during the tender phase.
  • Maintain strong partnership with Systems Engineering.
  • Possess sound knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and Baseline Management.
  • Provide weekly reporting to Programmes Manager on project status.
  • Liaise with departments across the value chain to coordinate progress and influence project stages.
  • Support development of PM strategy, processes, and procedures aligned with company objectives.
Experience & Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years’ experience in Project Management.
  • 2 years mechanical/industrial engineering experience.
  • Experience in land vehicles is an advantage.
  • Experience related to the total life cycle of a product is an advantage.
  • Engineering degree, or similar. Preferably in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Post-graduate level PM or General Management qualification advantageous.
