Job summary

Howden, a Chart Industries Company, is seeking a Project Manager in South Africa to lead mechanical engineering projects with a strong focus on safety, quality and delivery. You will coordinate workshop and field teams, manage costs, and ensure customer satisfaction on time and within budget.

The role requires a Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, PMP certification, 5+ years of PM experience, and hands-on knowledge of rotating equipment and related systems.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• Project Management Professional certification is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of project management experience.
• Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, reciprocating compressors, gas compressor engines, and steam turbines.
• Knowledge of quality management systems and EHS practices.
• Customer-facing experience and strong communication skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Projects.
• A valid Code 08 driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Enforce safety policies to mitigate project risks and foster a safe environment.
• Collaborate with Workshop, Field Services and customers to assign talent to projects and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Prepare costings and proposals with Sales Engineers to meet customer requirements.
• Create comprehensive project scope packs for workshop and field services teams.
• Develop risk management and contingency plans with the Safety Department.
• Communicate progress and scope changes to clients and obtain approvals and purchase orders.
• Ensure subcontractors meet safety and cost requirements.
• Expedite goods and services to meet project needs.
• Liaise with Quality Department to maintain quality plans.
• Deliver projects on target to support bookings and sales.
• Capture order information in the ERP to ensure delivery and payment.
• Prepare service reports and timesheets for accounting.
• Travel to visit clients and subcontractors and manage AX-based project budgets and forecasts.

What Will You Do?

• Enforce company and client safety policies to mitigate project risks and cultivate a safe, collaborative work environment.
• Work closely with the Workshop team, Field Services team, and customers to put the best mix of talent in the right projects, on time and correctly, to ensure customer satisfaction consistent with our objectives.
• Prepare costings and proposals for workshop and field projects, working with Sales Engineers to meet customer requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive Workshop and Field Service project scope packs to ensure Workshop Team and FSR’s are fully aware of project delivery requirements and time, cost, and quality targets
• Develop risk management and contingency plans with the Safety Department.
• Communicate with the client on progress and work scope changes, capturing client approval and purchase order for changes/additions.
• Ensure that subcontractors perform as agreed and comply with safety and cost requirements.
• Expedite goods and services to meet project needs.
• Liaise with the Quality Department in the creation, approval, and maintenance of quality plans.
• Deliver the project on target to support the achievement of departmental bookings and sales.
• Capture order information on the ERP system to ensure timeous delivery and payment of suppliers.
• Prepare reports on all services rendered for customer support.
• Prepare timesheets for service work and submit to accounts for allocation of man-hours to jobs.
• Prepare to travel and visit clients and subcontractors
• Maintain all aspects of projects managed on AX, including budgets and forecasts.

Your Experience Should Be...

• Diploma/ Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Project Management Professional Certification.
