Job summary

Epiroc in Mokopane, SA, is seeking a hands-on Product Specialist to be the technical authority for trackless mining machines. You’ll support maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning and performance optimization across field operations, working with customers and technicians to maximize equipment uptime.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in mining equipment maintenance, strong diagnostic skills and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience maintaining mining or drilling equipment.
  • Experience with Epiroc equipment is an advantage.
  • Master Technician or technical leadership experience is beneficial.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair capabilities on mining equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and service documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical support on Epiroc trackless mining equipment, including commissioning and maintenance.
  • Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize reliability.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis with machine audits.
  • Support breakdowns, major repairs and warranty processes to minimize downtime.
  • Partner with customers and teams to identify opportunities for performance improvements.
  • Deliver technical guidance and training to operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintenance records with improvement recommendations.
  • Promote safety standards and participate in risk assessments and environmental compliance.

As a Product Specialist, you will serve as the technical authority for Epiroc Trackless Mining Machines (TMMs), providing expert support across maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning and performance optimization. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who is passionate about technology, customer success and continuous improvement.

What you'll do

  • Provide expert technical support on Epiroc trackless mining equipment, including commissioning, fault diagnosis, repair and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
  • Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, availability and operational performance.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis and machine audits, including RigScan assessments, while developing sustainable solutions to prevent recurring failures.
  • Support breakdown response activities, major machine repairs, critical component planning and warranty claim processes to minimize customer downtime.
  • Partner with customers, technicians and operational teams to identify opportunities for improving equipment performance, reliability and maintenance practices.
  • Deliver technical guidance and training to operators, artisans and maintenance personnel to enhance equipment knowledge and operational effectiveness.
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports, equipment performance analyses, maintenance records and improvement recommendations while providing regular updates to customers and stakeholders.
  • Promote and maintain compliance with Epiroc, customer and mining safety standards by actively participating in risk assessments, safety initiatives and environmental compliance activities.

What you'll bring

  • Grade 12 / Matric and a Section 26D Trade Test qualification in Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Mechanic, Millwright, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or a related trade. An Engineering National N Diploma (N6) will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience maintaining mining or drilling equipment, with Epiroc equipment experience considered a strong advantage. Experience in a Master Technician or technical leadership capacity will be beneficial.
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, with proven diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair capabilities on mining equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, service documentation and product catalogues to effectively support equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of underground and surface mining environments, with exposure to CAN Bus, automation systems, rig control technologies or related mining technologies being advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with customers and technical teams.
  • Valid driver's licence, medical fitness for mine-site work and willingness to work underground when required.
