Job summary

Africonology is seeking a Senior Process Engineer – Banking to lead end-to-end process improvements across banking operations, customer journeys and technology transformation programmes in Johannesburg. The role focuses on governance, design and digital enablement with senior stakeholder collaboration.

You will drive efficiencies, controls and benefits realisation, modelling with BPMN and supporting automation initiatives while mentoring junior analysts and coordinating with delivery teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in business process engineering, analysis or optimisation.
• Banking or financial services experience essential.
• Proven experience leading complex process improvement or transformation initiatives across multiple business functions.
• Strong experience in process modelling, control design, stakeholder facilitation and benefits measurement.

Responsibilities

• Lead process engineering initiatives across banking operations, customer journeys and technology transformation programmes.
• Assess complex end-to-end processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, duplication, operational risks and control weaknesses.
• Design current-state and future-state processes using BPMN, value-stream mapping and service workflow models.
• Facilitate workshops with senior stakeholders to agree process designs, priorities, ownership and implementation decisions.
• Develop improvement recommendations and business cases supported by measurable benefits.
• Define process standards, business rules, controls, performance indicators and accountability.
• Ensure process designs align with business strategy, enterprise architecture, risk requirements and regulatory obligations.
• Identify and assess opportunities for workflow automation, RPA, system integration and digital self-service.
• Partner with Business Analysts, Feature Analysts, Solution Architects and delivery teams to implement process changes.
• Lead process impact assessments and support UAT, operational readiness and implementation sign-off.
• Establish process governance, maintain repositories and ensure documentation remains accurate and auditable.
• Monitor benefits realisation and recommend corrective actions where improvements fall short.
• Review process deliverables and mentor junior analysts and process practitioners.

Job Purpose

Lead the analysis, design, optimisation and governance of end-to-end banking business processes. The Senior Process Engineer will drive complex process improvements that strengthen operational efficiency, customer experience, controls and digital enablement across business and technology functions.

• Degree or diploma in Business Management, Information Systems, IT or a related discipline.
• Certification in Business Process Management, Lean Six Sigma, Business Analysis or Process Engineering would be advantageous.

Required Experience

• 7+ years’ experience in business process engineering, analysis or optimisation.
• Banking or financial services experience is essential.
• Proven experience leading complex process improvement or transformation initiatives across multiple business functions.
• Strong experience in process modelling, control design, stakeholder facilitation and benefits measurement.
• Experience engaging senior management and influencing decisions across business and technology teams.
• Experience supporting change delivery in Agile or hybrid environments.

Technical Skills

• Advanced BPMN and end-to-end business process modelling.
• Value-stream mapping, root-cause analysis and process optimisation.
• Process governance, operational controls and risk assessment.
• Process performance measurement and benefits realisation.
• Process modelling tools such as ARIS, Bizagi, Visio or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
• Knowledge of workflow automation, RPA and process mining.
• SQL and Power BI exposure would be advantageous.
