• Proven understanding of API/ASME/NFPA/IEC/ISO/SANS standards and local safety requirements
• Eligibility for professional registration with ECSA (or in SA) would be ideal
• Ability to lead process safety reviews and on-site technical governance

Job description

We are seeking a Lead Process Engineer to represent the Company in driving high-integrity process design, hydraulic optimization, and commissioning across bulk liquid and petroleum storage facilities.

In this role, you will act as the principal process authority on site, rigorously challenging and approving EPC deliverables to ensure peak performance and safety compliance. You will lead process integrity from P&ID reviews through HAZOPs to final start-up and operational handover.

The Tech Stack Deep-Dive

Core Systems & Fluid Hydraulics

• Must-Haves: Petroleum storage & transfer systems, pumping hydraulics, tank farm operations, product handling, vapor management, metering, and plant utilities.
• Nice-to-Haves: Bulk liquid handling, pipeline systems, and port/marine terminal integration.
• Must-Haves: P&ID development, cause-and-effect matrix reviews, operating philosophies, HAZOP, HAZID, and Management of Change (MOC).
• Nice-to-Haves: SIL/LOPA studies and direct participation in pre-commissioning/commissioning procedures.

Standards, Codes & Governance

• Must-Haves: API, ASME, NFPA, IEC, ISO, SANS, and local statutory safety requirements.
• Nice-to-Haves: Professional registration with ECSA (or eligibility) and previous Owner's Team / PMC execution experience in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities (Keep it brief)

• EPC Deliverable Assurance: Review, challenge, and approve EPC contractor engineering packages, ensuring alignment with project design basis and statutory requirements.
• Process Safety Leadership: Lead and participate in risk assessments including HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL/LOPA studies, ensuring all process safety action items are resolved prior to commissioning.
• Field Commissioning & Handover: Witness onsite hydraulic testing, support commissioning and start-up activities, and verify final handover documentation for operations.
