Job summary

Placements24 in East London seeks a highly skilled Process Chemist to join their manufacturing and development team. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical processes for API production, translating laboratory work into robust manufacturing methods.

You will work in a lab and pilot plant setting to ensure reliable supply of high-quality APIs throughout development to market in the Eastern Cape facility.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in process chemistry within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms.
• Experience with process scale-up, optimization, and technology transfer.
• Familiarity with ICH guidelines and regulatory requirements for API manufacturing.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques such as NMR, HPLC, GC, and MS.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes for APIs, focusing on scalability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement measures to ensure safe operations.
• Execute laboratory and pilot plant experiments to validate and optimize manufacturing processes.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Characterize intermediates and final APIs using appropriate analytical techniques.
• Prepare detailed process descriptions, batch records, and technical reports for technology transfer.
