Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Electrical Design Engineer for an on-site role in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead design for large-scale industrial plants, oversee a team, and ensure safe, compliant electrical systems across the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate brings 12+ years in electrical engineering, 5+ years in senior design, and professional engineer registration. Travel to project sites is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Pr.Eng registration is mandatory.
• 12+ years of electrical engineering experience, with 5+ years in a senior/principal design role for industrial projects.
• Experience in HV/MV power distribution, MCCs, and industrial automation.
• Proficient in CAD and simulation tools and industry codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design effort for major industrial projects from concept to commissioning.
• Develop and review detailed electrical designs, schematics, single-line diagrams, and control philosophies.
• Specify electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, motors, VFDs, and control systems.
• Mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and feedback.
• Ensure compliance with codes and client specifications (SANS, IEC, NEC).
• Collaborate with project management and construction teams for seamless execution.
• Conduct technical reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments.
