Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Professional Civil Engineer (Pr Eng) to join our Cape Town team at Principal level. The role requires a strong technical background in municipal infrastructure and building-related civil engineering, combined with the ability to lead projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and engage confidently with clients and approving authorities.

• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Typically 8+ years of relevant consulting engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and demonstrated competence.
• Strong technical judgement and the ability to develop practical solutions to complex civil engineering challenges.
• Proven experience in the design and delivery of civil infrastructure associated with buildings, developments and municipal engineering projects.
• Experience across:

Roads and access infrastructure

Bulk earthworks and platform design

Stormwater management and drainage

Sewer and wastewater infrastructure

Potable water and fire water infrastructure

Municipal services and external infrastructure connections

• Strong working knowledge of relevant South African design standards, municipal requirements and engineering codes.
• Proficient in Civil 3D, with a strong understanding of BIM-enabled design and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, tender documentation and construction information.
• Ability to undertake technical reviews and provide professional engineering oversight and sign-off where required.
• Experience coordinating with architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, developers, contractors and municipal authorities.
• Strong acommunication skills with the ability to represent the company professionally in client and technical meetings.
• Experience in structural design would be advantageous
• Preferably experienced in delivering projects for, or obtaining approvals from, the City of Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the civil engineering design and delivery of building development and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Develop and review civil engineering designs from feasibility and concept through detailed design, tender and construction.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technologists and BIM/CAD personnel.
• Drive BIM and Civil 3D-based project delivery, including coordination of civil models with other disciplines.
• Undertake technical reviews, design verification and quality assurance.
• Manage project deliverables, programmes, budgets and technical resources.
• Liaise with clients, municipalities, approving authorities and other professional consultants.
• Support tender preparation, fee proposals and project pursuits.
• Provide construction-stage technical support, respond to RFIs and undertake site inspections where required.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a technically strong and commercially aware civil engineer who is comfortable operating at Principal / Associate level. They should combine hands-on engineering capability with project leadership, client-facing skills and the ability to develop and mentor junior technical staff.
