Job summary

Placements24 seeks a vigilant Power Plant Operator for our Klerksdorp facility. You will monitor and control boilers, turbines, generators, switchgear from the control room, responding to alarms and operational changes to ensure continuous electricity generation.

The role requires a strong understanding of thermodynamics and combustion, plus the ability to interpret P&IDs and safety procedures. It offers shift-based work, training, and the chance to contribute to national energy provision.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or significant power plant operations experience.
• Minimum 4 years' experience as an operator in a thermal power plant.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, combustion, and electrical generation.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, manuals, and safety procedures.
• Proficiency in control room operations and alarm management.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control power plant equipment via the control room interface.
• Perform routine operational checks and readings within specified limits.
• Respond to alarms, disturbances, and emergencies according to procedures.
• Communicate operational status to shift supervisors and relevant personnel.
• Operate auxiliary systems such as water treatment and fuel handling.
• Adhere to safety, procedures, and environmental standards.
