Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Power Plant Operations Technician for our Paarl facility. You will monitor and operate power generation equipment, perform routine checks, and follow start-up and shutdown procedures to ensure reliable energy output.

The role requires and maintains rigorous safety standards, a technical qualification (NTC/Trade Diploma) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, and at least 3 years of experience in power plant operations.

Qualifications

• Trade/technical qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Ability to read P&IDs and electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Power Plant Operations Technician to join their team in Paarl. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of power generation equipment, ensuring the plant runs efficiently and reliably. You will perform routine checks, troubleshoot operational issues, and execute start-up and shutdown procedures according to strict protocols. The ideal candidate is adept at working in a demanding operational environment, possesses strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and performance for the power generation facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor power generation equipment (turbines, generators, boilers, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plant equipment.
• Respond promptly to alarms and operational deviations, troubleshooting issues to restore normal plant conditions.
• Follow strict safety procedures and protocols during all operations, maintenance, and emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations, maintenance activities, and performance data for the energy plant.

Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NTC, Trade Diploma) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in power plant operations or a related industrial setting.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and operating manuals.
• Strong understanding of power generation principles and safety regulations in the energy sector.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to shift work schedules within the Paarl facility.
