About the Role

Our client, a key operator in the national energy generation sector, is seeking an experienced Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the mechanical and electrical maintenance operations at their facility in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This crucial role ensures the reliability and optimal performance of power generation equipment through effective leadership and management of the maintenance team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of power plant systems, maintenance strategies, safety protocols, and team supervision. You will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing all maintenance activities, from routine inspections to major overhauls, ensuring minimal downtime and adherence to stringent safety standards. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians (mechanical and electrical) in performing routine and corrective maintenance.
• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive maintenance schedules and plans for all power plant equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential issues and proactively address them.
• Oversee the execution of major maintenance projects, including outages and overhauls.
• Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of necessary materials for maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate reports on equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance costs.
• Train and mentor maintenance staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and skill development.
• Foster strong communication links with operations, engineering, and management teams.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related trade qualification with significant supervisory experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in power plant maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven experience with a variety of power generation technologies (e.g., thermal, gas turbines, hydro).
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems (turbines, pumps, boilers) and electrical systems (generators, switchgear, transformers).
• In-depth knowledge of power plant maintenance best practices, safety procedures (including LOTO), and environmental regulations.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Must be willing to work shifts and be on call as required for operational needs in Vereeniging .
