Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join an on-site operations team in Soweto, Gauteng. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade power generation equipment including turbines, generators, and related mechanical systems, with close collaboration across operations and control teams.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in thermodynamics, rotating equipment, and safety protocols, along with hands-on maintenance experience and excellent problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on power generation/heavy industry/rotating equipment.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science applied to power systems.
• Hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery.
• Familiarity with power plant operations and safety protocols.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical drawings.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex maintenance on power generation equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues in turbines, pumps, compressors, and other plant machinery.
• Analyze operational data to identify trends and predict failures; propose preventive maintenance.
• Participate in planning and execution of major overhauls and upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
• Develop and review technical documentation including maintenance procedures and inspection reports.
• Collaborate with operations, electrical, and control teams to ensure seamless plant operation.
• Assist in procurement of spare parts and equipment with technical specifications.
• Stay updated on advancements in power generation technology.
