Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to maintain and repair power generation equipment across the Richards Bay region. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues at client sites to minimize downtime and ensure reliable energy supply.

The role requires hands-on problem solving, strict safety adherence, and willingness to travel. A technical qualification and at least 3 years in a similar energy-sector maintenance role are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a technical qualification or certification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related trade.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Field Service Technician or similar hands-on maintenance role in the energy sector.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, gas turbines and electrical control systems.
• Proficient with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and specialized equipment.
• Valid driver''s license and willingness to travel extensively within the service area.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on power generation equipment (generators, turbines, and related systems).
• Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
• Install, test, and commission new equipment per manufacturer specs and client requirements.
• Respond to emergency service calls with efficient repair solutions.
• Maintain accurate service records and time spent on jobs.
• Follow health and safety regulations and company policies.
