Job summary

Morton Moore Pty Ltd in Johannesburg is seeking a Portfolio Manager / Broker Consultant to grow and service an independent broker portfolio. You will drive profitable premium growth while upholding underwriting quality and service standards, requiring strong market engagement and relationship-building across brokers and corporate brokerages.

The role involves regular broker meetings, education on product offerings and underwriting strategy, plus travel within the Gauteng region.

Qualifications

• Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
• Full short-term insurance qualification (NQF Level 4/5, minimum 120 credits) as required by FAIS
• Minimum 5 years' experience in South African short-term insurance, broker consulting or external sales
• Proven sales track record with strong negotiation, influencing and closing ability
• Confident, warm, engaging communicator with ability to build trust quickly
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially email and proposals
• Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills and insurance administration systems
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region
• Fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans (advantageous)

Responsibilities

• Manage, service and grow an allocated broker portfolio in the Johannesburg region
• Achieve and exceed new business and retention targets
• Conduct regular broker appointments (in-person and virtual)
• Educate brokers on the company value proposition and underwriting appetite
• Identify portfolio gaps and cross-sell opportunities
• Monitor portfolio health, losses and renewals, advise on risk and cover changes
• Prepare portfolio data, performance metrics and market trends
• Ensure documentation is accurate before handover to Administration
• Communicate underwriting changes and regulatory requirements to brokers
• Travel within the region to meet clients and attend industry events
