Placements24 is seeking an experienced Petroleum Geochemist in Vereeniging, Gauteng. You will analyze geochemical data from rocks, oils and gases, assess maturity, and predict reservoir qualities while collaborating with exploration teams.

The role blends lab work with data interpretation in a regional oil and gas context. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Geochemistry (or related field) with 5+ years in petroleum geochemistry, and is proficient with GC-MS, Rock-Eval, and isotope

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or related Earth Science field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum geochemistry within the Oil & Gas exploration and production sector.
• Proficiency with geochemical software and analytical techniques (GC-MS, Rock-Eval, isotope analysis).
• Strong understanding of organic matter types, thermal maturity, biodegradation, and petroleum systems.
• Excellent data interpretation and reporting skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Petroleum Geochemist to join their technical team in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is central to understanding the origin, migration, and accumulation of hydrocarbons in subsurface reservoirs. You will analyze geochemical data from source rocks, oils, and gases to characterize petroleum systems, assess maturity, and predict reservoir quality. The position involves a mix of laboratory analysis, data interpretation, and collaboration with exploration and production teams in the Oil & Gas industry . This is an exciting opportunity to apply advanced geochemical techniques to de-risk exploration ventures and optimize production strategies in a region with significant potential.

Key Responsibilities
