Job Description

The Performance Marketing Manager is responsible for driving the performance marketing strategy and execution for assigned Old Mutual business segments, ensuring that digital marketing activity delivers measurable commercial outcomes such as qualified leads, online sales, conversion growth, cost efficiency, and revenue contribution.

The role translates segment objectives, budgets, targets, and customer priorities into clear performance marketing plans, then partners closely with the Campaign Management team to ensure digital campaigns are executed accurately, optimised continuously, and reported with actionable insight.

This role requires a commercially minded, analytical, detail-oriented and confident performance marketing professional who can lead through influence, present effectively to senior stakeholders, understand the numbers behind performance, and help take priority segments to the next level through sharper planning, better execution alignment, stronger measurement, and continuous optimisation.

Role Positioning Management-level individual contributor role, not a Head-level role.

Owns and drives performance marketing planning, delivery alignment, optimisation and reporting for assigned segments.

Works closely with Campaign Management, Media Operations, Analytics, Brand, CRM, Product, Technology, Compliance and segment stakeholders.

Leads through influence, commercial understanding, evidence-based recommendations and strong stakeholder communication.

Key Accountabilities
  • Segment Performance Marketing Strategy: Develop and maintain performance marketing strategies for assigned segments, aligned to segment priorities, budgets, targets and growth ambitions. Translate commercial objectives into measurable marketing outcomes, including lead volumes, sales, cost efficiency, conversion rates and revenue contribution. Identify opportunities to scale performance by improving audience targeting, channel mix, content relevance, landing page experience and conversion journeys.
  • Campaign Planning and Execution Alignment: Work closely with the Campaign Management team to translate approved strategies into executable digital campaign plans. Provide clear briefs, campaign requirements, budget guidance, KPI expectations and optimisation priorities. Ensure campaigns are launched accurately, on time, within governance requirements, and aligned to the agreed performance strategy. Maintain strong quality assurance discipline across naming conventions, tracking, budgets, creative, targeting, landing pages and reporting inputs.
  • Performance Optimisation and Commercial Delivery: Monitor campaign performance regularly and identify actions to improve efficiency, scale and conversion performance. Use data to make recommendations on budget shifts, audience refinements, creative testing, landing page improvements and channel optimisation. Understand and manage key performance metrics including CPL, CPA, CTR, CPC, conversion rate, ROAS, lead-to-sale conversion and cost-to-income contribution where applicable. Drive performance conversations beyond media metrics by linking activity to segment outcomes and business value.
  • Data, Reporting and Insight: Analyse performance data and convert it into clear insight, recommendations and next actions. Partner with Analytics and Campaign Management teams to ensure tracking integrity, reporting accuracy and consistent performance definitions. Prepare performance updates, dashboards and monthly reviews for segment teams and senior stakeholders. Identify patterns, risks and opportunities early, and elevate with practical recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Leadership and Presentation: Build trusted relationships with segment stakeholders, senior marketing leaders, campaign managers, analytics teams and operational partners. Present performance results, strategic recommendations, risks and opportunities confidently to senior stakeholders across the Group. Lead meetings with clarity, structure and commercial confidence, ensuring actions, owners and timelines are clearly agreed. Translate complex performance data into simple business language that enables decision‑making.
  • Budget Management & Commercial Accountability: Oversee and optimise performance marketing budgets across business segments. Ensure efficient allocation of spend to maximise: Cost per lead (CPL) efficiency; Cost per acquisition (CPA) performance; Return on ad spend (ROAS). Drive accountability for commercial outcomes, not just media metrics.
Key Attributes for Success
  • Commercial ownership: Thinks beyond clicks and impressions, and understands how performance marketing contributes to leads, sales, revenue, customer growth and segment success.
  • Analytical confidence: Comfortable working with numbers, trends, budgets, conversion rates, forecasts and performance trade‑offs.
  • Attention to detail: Maintains accuracy across briefs, budgets, tracking, campaign setup, reporting and stakeholder updates.
  • Strategic execution mindset: Can connect segment strategy to campaign execution and ensure the work translates into measurable outcomes.
  • Stakeholder presence: Presents with confidence, leads discussions effectively, and communicates performance clearly to senior audiences.
  • Collaboration and influence: Works well with Campaign Management and cross‑functional partners without needing direct reporting lines.
  • Problem‑solving discipline: Identifies root causes of underperformance and proposes practical actions rather than only reporting results.
  • Growth orientation: Constantly looks for ways to scale, improve, test and take the assigned segments to the next level.
Key Performance Indicatorts
  • Qualified lead volumes and lead quality by segment.
  • Online sales, conversions and conversion‑rate improvement.
