Job summary

Emeris Newlands has a vacancy for a part-time lecturing post in Psychology, offering courses such as Cognitive Psychology and Community Psychology. Lectures are scheduled between 08:00 and 17:00, on-campus in Cape Town. Applicants must reside in Cape Town and be available 2–3 days a week for the semester.

Independent Contractor role with part-time commitments, aiming to deliver high-quality teaching, assessments, and student support within the School of Humanities.

Qualifications

• A minimum of an Honour’s degree in Psychology or another Humanities/ Arts/Social Science Honour’s, or Postgraduate Diploma (NQF level 8 postgraduate qualification).
• The undergraduate qualification must include Psychology as a major (up to third year level).
• Ideally, lecturing experience in Psychology and/or work experience in counselling/therapeutic Psychology, etc.

Responsibilities

• Preparation, conducting of lectures, tutorials, workshops.
• Providing study guidance, learning support, consultation and mentoring of students;
• Initiation and development of module materials, including on-line materials;
• Marking and grading of student assessments;
• Module coordination and quality assurance;
• Other duties commensurate to the position as required.

• Providing study guidance, learning support, consultation and mentoring of students;
• Initiation and development of module materials, including on-line materials;
• Marking and grading of student assessments;
• Module coordination and quality assurance;
• A range of administrative functions connected to the discipline and modules being taught;
• Other duties commensurate to the position as required.

Other Job Requirements

• Demonstrate capability to lecture at tertiary level in an effective manner in the core courses stipulated at the highest academic level;
• Expertise in e-learning programs such as Blackboard and Moodle;
• Demonstrated capacity to design, set and evaluate assessments at the appropriate level for the courses stipulated;
• High level of communication skills in verbal, written and electronic modes; and
• Proven high-level administrative abilities.

Working Conditions

• Please note that this is an Independent Contractor role
• Positions arepart-time, with lectures taking place between 08:00 and 17:00.
• Must reside in Cape Town (All classes presented on-Campus)
• Applicants must be available to lecture for 2 -3 days (within business hours) within a week for the duration of the semester.
