Job summary

Afrimat Nkomati Anthracite in Mpumalanga invites an experienced Opencast Manager to lead opencast production, plan long-term mining strategies, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. You will supervise planning, geology, engineering and maintenance teams to achieve production and cost objectives.

Candidate must have 10+ years in opencast coal, suitable blasting certificates, and a track record of safety leadership in a fast-paced mining environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or national diploma in mining engineering.
• Opencast blasting certificate; NHD and managers certificate preferred.
• Min 10 years supervisory experience in an opencast coal mine.
• Experience with DMPR; knowledge of mining legislation, safety and environmental compliance requirements.
• Medically fit to perform duties in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act.

Responsibilities

• Legal and operational control of all opencast operations.
• Develop and implement production plans, short-, medium-, and long-term mining strategies, and operational budgets.
• Ensure compliance with mining legislation, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Lead the mine planning, geology, engineering, and maintenance teams to achieve production and cost objectives.
• Oversee the implementation and adherence to mine standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, safety audits, and operational inspections.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
• Manage mine resources, equipment utilization, and manpower to optimize output.
• Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders, contractors, and external authorities.
• Ensure accurate reporting on production, costs, safety, and compliance metrics.
• Uphold strong safety leadership and promote a zero-harm culture across the mining operation.
