Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Mining Engineer for our client in the Cape Town region. The role focuses on open-pit mining strategies, mine planning, design and execution to ensure safe, efficient extraction of resources.

You will collaborate with site operations, geologists and environmental teams to optimize production, improve resource utilization and drive operational excellence within the company's mining footprint.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in open-pit mining operations and planning.
• Proficiency with mine planning software (Deswik, Surpac, or Datamine).
• Strong knowledge of mine surveying, drilling, blasting, and load-and-haul operations.
• Familiarity with mine safety regulations and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develop short- and long-term mine plans, pit design, scheduling and production targets.
• Oversee daily mining operations ensuring safety and adherence to plans.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for projects or expansions.
• Optimize mine design and parameters to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs.
• Lead mining crews and equipment operators to achieve objectives.
• Implement best practices in mine safety, environmental management, and efficiency.
