Placements24 seeks an experienced Mine Planner for open pit operations in Centurion, Gauteng. The role focuses on translating long-term plans into detailed daily and weekly production schedules, coordinating with geologists, surveyors and operations to maximize ore recovery while meeting safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 6 years in open pit planning, strong proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan or Surpac, and a proven track record of optimizing sequences and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of open pit mine planning and operations experience.
• Proficiency in mining planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac or similar.
• Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, equipment and constraints.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and spatial reasoning skills.
• Ability to interpret geological data and geotechnical reports.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement detailed short-term (daily/weekly) and medium-term (monthly/quarterly) mine plans.
• Integrate geological models, resource estimates and geotechnical constraints into production plans.
• Optimize mine sequences, pit outlines and waste dump designs to maximize ore recovery.
• Collaborate with surveyors, geologists and operations personnel to ensure accurate execution of plans.
• Prepare mine plan drawings, schedules and reports using mining software.
• Monitor daily production progress against planned targets and adjust as needed.
• Conduct feasibility studies and contribute to strategic mine planning initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate new mining technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency.
• Assist in budget preparation and cost control related to mine planning activities.
