Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a fast-growing renewable energy company in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will design electrical infrastructure for PV projects, producing detailed drawings and performing system analyses to ensure grid interconnection and project success.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 4+ years in electrical design for power systems or renewables, and is proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical design for power systems or renewables.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Kimberley with travel within Northern Cape.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for solar PV power plants, including AC/DC collections, inverters, and grid interconnection.
• Produce detailed electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment layouts.
• Perform electrical calculations, including load flow, fault level, and grounding studies.
• Specify electrical components, balance of system (BOS) equipment, and protection devices.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and construction teams.
• Conduct site visits for design verification and to support construction activities in the Northern Cape region.
• Review vendor proposals and technical submittals.
