Job summary

Department of Health in Gauteng seeks a Nurse Educator to plan, coordinate and deliver nursing education programmes. You will provide theoretical and clinical instruction, supervise students, and conduct assessments to ensure competency against SANC standards.

The role requires registration with SANC as Nurse and Midwife, plus a post-basic qualification in Nursing Education. A Master’s degree is advantageous and a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Basic qualifications accredited with South African Nursing Council (SANC) per Government Notice R425 for RN and Midwife.
• Degree in Nursing that includes midwifery as a qualification.
• Diploma/Degree in Nursing Education registered with SANC as nurse educator.
• Master’s degree in nursing will be an added advantage.
• Registered with SANC as Professional Nurse and Midwife.
• PND1: four years nursing experience after registration.
• PND2: four years nursing + ten years nursing education after post-basic qualification.
• Must be computer literate; strong communication, supervisory, report writing and presentation skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and implement nursing programmes.
• Provide theoretical and clinical instructions and conduct evaluations of Nursing programmes.
• Deliver clinical accompaniment, supervision and assessment strategies for student competencies.
• Exercise control over students and provide guidance to attain minimum course requirements per SANC.
• Support the College mission by serving on committees and engaging in meetings and campus activities.
• Promote the College image; participate in nursing education research.
• Develop, review and evaluate curriculum; engage in CPD related to nursing education.
• Undertake two pre-entry assessments: practical exercise and integrity assessment.
