Job summary

Astra in Gardens, Cape Town, is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage the accounting function across five entities using Xero, handle monthly journals, reconciliations and inter-entity balances, and oversee financial reporting and audit prep.

The role requires 3–5 years in accounting, a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, proficiency in Xero and Excel, and strong communication. On-site work in Gardens, with a commitment to ethical NGO finance practices.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in an accounting or finance role
• Proficient in Xero and Excel
• Experience with POS systems (advantageous)
• Experience with multi-entity accounting and NGO environments preferred
• Able to liaise with suppliers and stakeholders
• Excellent administration and organisational skills

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting for five entities using Xero
• Process monthly journals, reconciliations, and inter-entity loan balances
• Oversee financial reporting: monthly management accounts and audit preparation
• Manage VAT, payroll, statutory returns, and investment accounts
• Maintain accurate records and implement robust systems
• Reconcile and support POS processes for Coffeetime and Giftime
• Liaise with suppliers and resolve customer account queries
• Participate in budgeting, cash flow management, and year‑end procedures.
