Key Responsibilities

Install, terminate, test, and certify structured cabling systems (copper and fiber optic) within data center environments. Deploy, configure, and manage network hardware, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points. Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Monitor network traffic and system performance using specialized tools, identifying and resolving potential issues proactively. Respond to network incidents and outages, performing timely root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, cabling layouts, and inventory management. Ensure adherence to network security policies and best practices, including physical security of network equipment. Collaborate with senior network engineers and IT support teams on network upgrades and projects. Assist in the planning and implementation of network changes and deployments. Adhere to strict safety procedures and company protocols within the data center facility in Centurion .

Requirements

Proven experience as a Network Technician or in a similar IT infrastructure support role, preferably in a data center environment. Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs) and network topologies. Hands-on experience with network hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, HP). Proficiency in structured cabling standards and fiber optic technologies. Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds). Knowledge of network security principles and firewall management is a plus. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting. Strong communication and documentation skills, with attention to detail. Must possess a valid driver's license for potential site visits within Gauteng . Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
