Job summary

First Technology Pty Ltd is seeking a Network Engineer in KwaZulu-Natal to quickly identify and remediate networking problems, maintain diagrams, and support monitoring tools. You will ensure secure configurations and assist with device installation and upgrades.

The role requires strong communication, timeliness, and the ability to work under pressure while following predefined procedures and SLAs. Prior CCNA/CCNP or Fortinet/Sophos experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Matric and N+ are essential.
• CCNA/CCNP or equivalent certification is beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT Diploma is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Identify and remediate intermediate networking problems quickly.
• Understand network security best practices.
• Perform first line troubleshooting of faults.
• Maintain WAN and LAN diagrams.
• Support network monitoring tools (PRTG, ZABBIX, NMSAAS).
• Carry out basic network maintenance and upgrades.
• Configure installation of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
• Follow change management policies for network changes.
• Manage network assets and vendors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• The ability to quickly identify and remediate Intermediate networking problems
• An understanding of Network Security including industry best practices.
• Ability to perform first line troubleshooting of faults
• Maintaining WAN and LAN diagrams
• Maintaining, and supporting Network Monitoring tools IE: PRTG, ZABBIX, NMSAAS etc
• Perform basic network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
• Basic configure and installation of various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls)
• Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
• Network asset management.

Vendor Proficiency

• Fortinet/Sophos – Experience and/or certification preferred
• Cisco – Certified
• Aruba – Experience and/or certification preferred
• H3C – Experience beneficial
• Ubiquity – Experience and/or certification preferred
