Job summary

Manuchar South Africa is seeking a National Transport Manager based in Durban to lead the transport function, manage owned and leased fleets, and drive cost-efficient, compliant operations. You will oversee planning, budgeting, procurement, and supplier relations while promoting safety and service excellence.

The role requires a strong leader with 5+ years in transport management, solid fleet lifecycle knowledge, and excellent negotiation and reporting skills.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in transport management within a medium to large organisation.
• Proven leadership of teams and experience managing owned and leased fleets.
• Experience negotiating transport rates and supplier contracts.
• Experience in truck and trailer procurement and lifecycle management.
• Strong knowledge of transport operations, fleet management, and supply chain principles.
• Understanding of transport legislation, compliance, and safety requirements.
• Excellent negotiating, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee day-to-day transport operations.
• Ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of cargo.
• Drive service excellence and on-time delivery performance.
• Monitor transport performance and implement improvements.
• Manage transport-related customer queries and timely resolution.
• Oversee fleet utilisation, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
• Oversee route planning, scheduling, load optimisation, and resource allocation.
• Prepare and manage transport budgets; control operating costs.
• Lead procurement activities for trucks, trailers, and related assets.
• Ensure compliance with transport legislation, policies and safety standards.
• Lead, coach, and develop transport personnel; performance reviews.
