Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a vigilant Safety Officer for mining operations in the Polokwane area. You will focus on hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementing robust safety protocols to foster a zero-harm culture.

Working with operating teams, you will oversee the safety management system, investigate incidents, and deliver toolbox talks while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in mining or heavy industrial settings.
• Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and non-compliance.
• Develop, implement and maintain the site's health and safety management system.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses; recommend corrective actions.
• Provide safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
