Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will diagnose, repair and maintain a wide fleet of heavy mining equipment to ensure maximum uptime and safety.

The role requires a trade qualification and at least five years' hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrains and electrical systems. You will work shifts, including weekends, and contribute to training juniors.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with heavy machinery, preferably in mining or construction.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrains and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, welding and related equipment.
• Ability to work safely at heights and in physically demanding conditions.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and maintain heavy mining equipment including excavators, haul trucks, loaders and drills.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to prevent breakdowns.
• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify faults in engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems.
• Manage spare parts inventory for critical repairs.
• Adhere to safety regulations including lockout/tagout and working at heights.
• Keep accurate service records and reports of maintenance activities.
• Support training of junior mechanics and apprentices when required.
