Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Safety Officer for operations in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will implement safety policies, conduct risk assessments, and promote a strong safety culture across the site, ensuring compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act.

The role requires a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, at least 4 years in mining or heavy industry, and strong communication and training skills.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Minimum of 4 years as Safety Officer in mining/heavy industry.
• Knowledge of South African mining health and safety legislation.
• Experience in risk assessments, hazard identification, and investigations.
• Excellent communication and training skills.
• Ability to work independently under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety management systems .
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and non-compliance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports and corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training and toolbox talks at all levels of the organization.
• Ensure compliance with national and local health and safety regulations and standards.
• Advise management on health and safety matters and promote a proactive safety culture.
