Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planner in Port Elizabeth to develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans that maximize resource extraction while ensuring safety and environmental compliance.

You will work with geology and engineering teams to translate models into viable production schedules, using Deswik, Vulcan, or Surpac, and adapt plans as conditions change in a dynamic mining environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning and design.
  • Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac.
  • Solid understanding of open-pit or underground mining methods and their planning requirements.
  • Experience in resource estimation and geostatistical concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, adaptable for remote collaboration from Port Elizabeth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update integrated mine plans, including open-pit or underground designs, considering geological data and operational constraints.
  • Generate optimized production schedules, sequencing, and phasing for mine development and extraction activities.
  • Utilize mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) to create 3D models, design pits/panels, and generate cut/fill plans.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for various mining scenarios.
  • Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and surveyors to ensure plans are practical and achievable.
  • Monitor plan adherence and revise schedules as necessary based on operational performance and geological changes.
